Daniel Newman: Something that a lot of people don’t know about me is, I’ve been a university and college professor. I’ve lectured at many schools, did that after grad school. Always enjoyed it very much. Growing the business didn’t a lot of ton of time. But one of the things that excited me, Jim, when I looked at your no-event agenda was bringing on these universities. My experience is universities put the technology to the test, oftentimes in ways that enterprises aren’t going to be able to do for many years.

Because they’re okay to break things and their timetables are very different than enterprises. And so I really like the fact that you chose to dedicate some space and some time, no limits. Professors and students that are all about exploration. Talk a little bit about how you see the academic world really driving forward your industry.

Jim Elliott: Yeah. I know what you’ve mentioned is absolutely true. And really, if you think about it, the only limits are when the questions stop being asked in the academic world. Like how do we continue to push those boundaries. Right. As an industry and especially within academia. And so tie it back to specifically to memory and storage. The professors being showcased at this event are pushing the envelope when it comes to applying these massive datasets to solve real-world problems. And from along those lines, you’re going to hear from MIT about using flash and storage accelerators. From UC Santa Cruz on leading-edge genomics research, obviously a very hot topic nowadays.

UCLA is going to focus on how they’re researching in storage, acceleration, utilizing smart SSDs. And then Carnegie Mellon on programmable logic in the future of data centers. And so if you think about all of these are going to be great examples within the academic world. They’re working to find answers on how to manage and access these enormous datasets in real-time as possible. Right. And all these professors were at the forefront of really understanding how AI and machine learning are going to positively impact society. Not just now, but then also in the future. So again, I can’t wait for everybody to check it out and I’m really excited to have this new track this year.

Daniel Newman: Absolutely. And Jim, what a roster, by the way, you didn’t just bring a handful of universities and colleges. You brought some of the most respected steamed names that aren’t only known throughout the U.S but around the world. And so what I can promise you is this as well. Your virtual event has created an opportunity for people to sort of choose their own adventure. And if you listen-

Jim Elliott: Yeah.

Daniel Newman: To our podcast, you might’ve heard us even talk about that. But you can be sure that I will be tuning in to hear from these leaders in academia. Because like I said, I always loved the way they push all the buttons and they really try to work these technologies until the wheels fall off. So looking forward to hearing how they’re using your technology at Samsung to drive some of their most innovative and explorative projects.

Jim Elliott: Yeah. We’re super excited about it too. And this is something that we haven’t done in the past. And I think this is what this Virtual Tech Day is allowing this kind of flexibility to really expand our reach and go into new areas. So we’re super excited about it.

Daniel Newman: Click that registration button and show up. Can’t wait to… Hopefully see you there. Virtually Samsung Tech Day 2021.
