Qualcomm Announces its Snapdragon x75 5G Modem-RF
Analyst Take: The consumer and B2B markets are clamoring for 5G connectivity that promises to significantly boost digital transformation and customer centricity efforts. Ultimately these gains will translate into productivity improvements as more organizations are eager to take full advantage of the intelligent edge. Key vertical markets primed to take advantage of 5G connectivity include healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, utilities, and logistics.
To help its partners accomplish these efforts for their clients, Qualcomm introduced the Qualcomm Snapdragon x75 5G modem-RF, replacing the Snapdragon x70 Modem-RF System. The new modem is designed with features that will allow global operators and OEM partners to stay ahead of the curve by offering a chip that will provide excellent connectivity whether users are in their car, on their smartphone or personal computer, as well as supporting smart factory applications just to name a few.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon x75 5G modem-RF is touted as the world’s first 5G Advanced-ready modem-RF system with the first dedicated hardware tensor accelerator (Qualcomm 5G AI Processor Gen 2) for 5G. This enables 2.5x greater performance than prior generations (which includes sensor assisted beam management). In essence, these capabilities can help achieve better speeds, coverage, and location accuracy. The chip also includes the converged mmWave-sub6 architecture, Snapdragon Satellite and upgraded Modem-RF software suite that has on-device learning which can help users select the best network based on their immediate needs.
The Snapdragon x75 modem-RF also offers the ability to transmit two simultaneous signals from a user’s device, versus one, and improves uplink speeds. In addition, the upgraded Modem-RF software suite has on-device learning, assisting the device with establishing the best network connectivity. This feature thwarts dropped calls which is key for remote, on-the-go or hybrid workers leveraging their devices across collaboration and video conferencing apps.
The device will also get power efficiency gains through Qualcomm 5G PowerSave Gen 4 that can provide efficiency improvements from the converged mmWave-Sub-6G architecture. Also, the Power Efficiency Suite delivers RF power efficiency management system that will increase battery life, mobile data speeds, and coverage. Taken together, we believe these spectrum and energy efficiency breakthroughs boost Qualcomm’s sustainability credentials as well as assist Qualcomm’s partner base in using energy efficiency advances to strengthen meeting their own sustainability goals.
Another area worth noting is with the rise of 5G FWA broadband subscriptions, Qualcomm is doing its part to address the digital-divide with the inclusion of the Qualcomm FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) Platform Gen 3 that supports fully integrated 5G Advanced-ready FWA platform.
