HPE Goes Big on Private Cloud Extending its GreenLake Offerings at HPE Discover

The News: This week at HPE Discover, the tech company rolled out new offerings for HPE GreenLake including a reimagined modern private cloud that provides a cloud-native experience to take an organization’s hybrid strategy to the next level. HPE also launched eight new HPE GreenLake cloud services to give customers more choice and control. Read the full announcement from HPE.

HPE Reimagines Hybrid Cloud Experience with New Offerings for HPE GreenLake

Analyst Take: HPE started Discover 2022 with a bang, debuting new offerings for HPE GreenLake, its flagship product, in order to make it easier for consumers to buy, deploy, and consume the platform — a smart move that furthers their commitment to having all of its offerings available as a service by 2022.

HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise

The biggest announcement to come from the event so far is HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise. Private clouds have been steadily growing in popularity as organizations have embraced the offering as part of their cloud strategies. But many offerings fall short, lacking the necessary scalability and security needed to run workloads across the enterprise. This new offering for HPE GreenLake tackles that problem head-on by proving an automated, flexible and scalable experience. The private cloud offering runs more like a public cloud—in fact, at first glance it has almost all the makings of the Public Cloud experience. This is something that I’ve said is imperative for GreenLake to drive its next wave of adoption.

With a modular infrastructure, HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise supports bare metal, virtual machines, and container workloads. It also has the in-demand consumption-based pay-as-you-go and can scale up or down as needed. This is a salient move by HPE as organizations are tightening budgets as the economy tightens and companies are looking for more efficient ways to deliver projects—often looking toward per-use and other op-ex models.

Other New Offerings from HPE GreenLake

HPE didn’t stop with Private Cloud Enterprise. The organization also rolled out eight additional services to meet customer needs. These services include:

HPE GreenLake for Data Fabric – A managed service that simplifies data analytics for the enterprise with a single data store.

HPE GreenLake for HCI (Hyperconverged Infrastructure) – A SaaS-based operation to make it easier to manage virtual machines and infrastructure in the hybrid cloud.

HPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery – Speed up disaster recovery with a single platform that can help deal with everything from ransomware to outages or even natural disasters.

HPE Backup and Recovery Service – A backup solution built for Amazon Elastic Cloud Compute instances and Amazon elastic Block Storage. Customers can simplify managing and operating all software, hardware, and cloud infrastructure needed for backups.

HPE GreenLake for Block Storage – The first block storage as-a-service that will transform on-prem storage as a service with different service tiers for general-purpose workloads.

HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management – A cloud experience that simplifies and automates compute lifecycle management.

HPE GreenLake for Payments – An end-to-end, pay-per-use payments service from HPE GreenLake that will help customers modernize and manager their payments environments.

HPE GreenLake with FIS® Ethos™ – A real-time customer data platform that provides analytics and leverages technology from FIS, a fintech leader, to help improve customer engagements.

The Future Looks Solid for HPE

The first day of HPE Discover 2022 was full of important announcements that further solidify HPE’s mission to help organizations unlock value from their data, wherever it is. The new offerings for HPE GreenLake continue to up the value proposition of the edge-to-cloud platform, and with more than 70 services, it continues to be the most capable on-prem consumption offering out of the current lot in the market. It will be important that the company is steadfast to maintain its leadership, which is well-positioned with its robust software portfolio that has helped the service evolve to be a true platform solution.

In Q2 2022, the ARR of HPE GreenLake was reported at $829 million with significant growth for the third consecutive quarter. Looking to the future, I’m confident that we will see continued growth from HPE, built around its commitment to GreenLake, as more customers tap into the value of these new offerings.
